PUBLIC COMMENTS REGARDING AGENDA ITEMS AND GENERAL
PUBLIC COMMENTS The Supervisor stated that Councilman Franchino had a family commitment and could not be here this evening. The Supervisor opened the meeting up for Public Comment. Dr. Chris Serra, Clarkstown Central School District Mr. Serra overseas Health, Athletics and Aquatics at the School. He is here to thank the Town Board. When someone does something good, they should be called out on it.
He wants to call out the Town of Clarkstown for being good partners in solving the issues that the school had with Congers Lake. This allowed the Clarkstown Varsity Crew Team to have a season. About three weeks ago, he received bad news that this may not be the case. The dock was in bad shape and things needed to be repaired. Dr. Serra worked with the Supervisor, Al Moroni, Chip Connington and Matt Veronesi.
All necessary repairs were made and they were able to get Congers Lake up and running. This allowed our athletes to use the facility. Dr. Serra would like to thank the Town for their assistance. The Supervisor thanked Dr. Serra for his comments. We have exceptional programs in all of our Town Schools, and especially in our Clarkstown School District. The Supervisor closed public comments.
The Supervisor continued that tonight is the last Town Board Meeting that Chief Jeff Wanamaker will be attending as the Chief of the Clarkstown Police Department. It has been a pleasure working with the Chief and the entire Town Board will be making a special presentation for his service and dedication to the Town of Clarkstown. “Congratulations and thank you for everything you have done for this Town”.
The Chief stated that he was a Captain with Chief McCullagh and then he became Chief of the Department. It was a very interesting time. The Town was facing defunding, and COVID (unprecedented times). The Town Board, along with the Police Department did an outstanding job with this situation.
The Chief always wanted to make decisions based on what is right for the community and what is right for the Police Department. He thinks he left the Department in a better place. He would like to see future Chief Jim Fay to keep this legacy going forward. He would like to promote two officers before he leaves.
Police Officer Victor Caraballo and Police Officer Edward Fairclough to the permanent positions as Police Sergeants. They will do a great job. There are so many great candidates. Unfortunately, you can not pick everyone. Their start date will be May 1, 2026.
