Letters to the Town

Guidelines

Letters to the Town is a place for Clarkstown residents to share their views on local meetings, published like a newspaper’s letters-to-the-editor page. Letters are signed and reviewed by an editor before they appear — nothing is posted automatically.

What we ask of you

  • Sign your letter with your first name, last initial, and hamlet (for example, “Maria T., Valley Cottage”).
  • Verify your email address with the code we send you. This confirms you’re a real person.
  • Write about the meeting or an issue before the Town — keep it civil and on topic.
  • Speak for yourself. Don’t impersonate officials, other residents, or organizations.

Your email is private

We ask for your email only to verify you and, if needed, to contact you about your letter. It is never shown publicly, never attached to your published letter, and never shared. The public only ever sees your first name, last initial, and hamlet.

What gets published

An editor reads every letter before it goes live. We publish letters that are on topic and follow these guidelines. Editing is limited to obvious typos; we don’t rewrite your argument. An editor may add a short Editor’s note for context or correction, clearly labeled as such.

What gets rejected

We won’t publish letters that:

  • Attack or demean people, or contain slurs, harassment, or threats.
  • Make claims of fact we can’t reasonably stand behind, or are misleading.
  • Are spam, advertising, or mostly links.
  • Impersonate someone, or use a fake or unverifiable identity.
  • Are off topic or don’t relate to Clarkstown business.

Rejected letters are not posted. You’re welcome to revise and submit again.
